01
Metal-free crowns solve
80% of dental problems
It was once considered that a patient could be satisfied if they had almost all their teeth, without caries or root canal issues. Appearance was considered irrelevant – some had naturally more beautiful teeth, others less so, and we dentists performed repairs and extractions. Crowns have changed all that.
Today, patients usually do not come to the Cvejanović clinic because of acute problems, but because they are dissatisfied with the appearance of their teeth, usually for one of the following four reasons:
Metal-free crowns solve all these problems!
02
With or without implants, the appearance is the same
If the tooth root is healthy, there is no pronounced periodontitis and the remaining tooth mass is sufficient to carry a crown, a solution without an implant is always chosen. A crown without an implant is far more affordable, the construction process is faster and painless, and the transition between the gums and the crown is completely natural.
When a patient is missing one tooth or two adjacent teeth, the crowns can be supported by an implant. While the upper part of the crown is identical, there is a small difference in the way the crown sits on the gums. If the gums are healthy, the border between the gum and the crown will look natural, but if the gums have receded, which is often the case if a tooth has been missing for a long time, pink ceramics will be used to fill the gap.

Crown production in 30 minutes
At the Cvejanović clinic, we produce crowns manually and by machine.
Manual production is used for Hollywood smile and other larger works, when it is necessary for all crowns to be part of the same vision, and that is a true work of art, which is why it is done by hand.
On the other hand, when a single crown is being made, it can be machine-produced in just 30 minutes in a CEREC machine. This approach is ideal for situations when a single crown is placed in posterior positions, either on an implant or a prepared tooth, and if an implant is not being placed, the entire procedure can be finished in one hour. CEREC technology combined with digital scanning ensures that the machine crown fits perfectly between two natural teeth, and that a color is chosen that will match the adjacent teeth.
Every crown is different, every patient is special
When a whole set is made, every crown is different, because they build upon or replace different teeth in the jaw. Each crown is part of
a predefined final look and must fit into the shape of the jaw and the shape of the other crowns.
The advantage of a dentist with decades of experience is precisely that the crowns will meet the individual needs
of the patient, both functionally and aesthetically, and the entire set will be part of a broader vision.
50 shades of white
The color of the crowns is adjusted to the color of the adjacent teeth, and in the case of a complete Hollywood smile, the color of the crowns is chosen by the patient. Today, hardly anyone wants crowns that look natural; instead, completely white teeth are requested, and the only difference is how dazzling that white color is.
The brightest is the Bleach 1 shade, Bleach 2 is used the most, and patients who want a slightly more natural shade choose Bleach 4. When crowns are installed next to natural teeth, the teeth are usually whitened first, but even then it is necessary to fine-tune the color of the crowns to match the color of the whitened teeth. When only one or two crowns are installed, the difference between the crowns and other teeth is particularly difficult to notice, as they are most often posterior teeth.
Hollywood smile: Crowns to the max
A single crown replaces a tooth that is missing or destroyed by caries, two or three crowns can form a bridge, but crowns provide the best effect when placed on all teeth. That is the Hollywood smile, today the most common procedure involving crowns.
Most patients do not want to have a few crowns and the rest natural teeth, because then the crowns must be yellowish to imitate natural teeth. Patients usually wait for the moment when they will fully switch to crowns, and we help them choose that moment, never rushing the patients. As long as we believe that a good aesthetic effect can be achieved with braces and whitening, we advise patients to postpone the Hollywood smile, and when a good look can no longer be achieved otherwise, we start planning the Hollywood smile work.
Patients mostly know that with a Hollywood smile they will get perfectly white teeth, that speech and chewing power will improve, that they will no longer have dental problems, but they are often unaware of the most important improvement, which is that the Hollywood smile completely changes the facial smile physiognomy. When a Hollywood smile is crafted, the teeth are slightly more massive, longer, and more prominent, in a more regular arch than in most people's natural teeth, and that change makes patients significantly more attractive, regardless of age.

Frequently asked questions
How long do metal-free crowns last?
Dental crowns generally last 15 years or more, often for a lifetime. Their lifespan mostly depends on the load they are exposed to, i.e., dietary habits, teeth clenching or grinding, as well as the influence of forces in the jaw, as certain teeth are sometimes exposed to greater pressure. Crowns possess high mechanical resistance. However, their lifespan can be shortened by the poor condition of the tooth or root beneath the crown. If problems occur due to poor hygiene, then the life of the entire restoration is shortened, but the cause is not in the crown itself but in the changes of the surrounding structures. With good oral hygiene, regular check-ups, and properly distributed biting forces, dental crowns can be a very long-lasting, and even permanent solution.
Does the patient have a subjective feeling that something is different when they have a crown next to natural teeth?
Initially, it is normal for the patient to notice a difference, as the crown is a new foreign body in the mouth and a short time is needed for the brain and body to get used to it. That feeling usually lasts a few days and relates to a slight change in the touch of the teeth or the sensation when biting. After the adaptation period, most patients stop noticing any difference compared to natural teeth. With a Hollywood smile, the crowns follow the natural contact and shape of the teeth in the jaw, which is why the sensation is essentially identical. Patients then experience the crowns as their own teeth, often forgetting they have had aesthetic work done.
Do you recommend a Hollywood smile to younger patients as well?
We do not recommend a Hollywood smile to patients younger than 30, especially when aesthetic deficiencies can be resolved with simpler and less invasive methods. In such situations, we first suggest alternatives, such as wearing braces and teeth whitening, or eventually veneers, as a less invasive solution. We give patients over 30 full freedom of choice, but we also point out alternatives to them. Essentially, the goal is to keep natural teeth as long as they are healthy and can be aesthetically acceptable, with the exception of certain professions that require perfect teeth, when crowns can be placed a few years earlier than they would be for other patients.
